Acupuncture for sleep, stress and anxiety
Stress tends to show itself in the body as well as the mind, in broken sleep, tension headaches, digestive upsets, or a tiredness that rest doesn’t seem to fix.
For many of the people I see, stress is tangled up with something else: fertility treatment, a demanding job, caring for others, perimenopause, or a long-term health condition.
Sleep and insomnia
If sleep is the main problem, whether that’s long-standing insomnia or a few bad months, I’ll ask whether you find it hard to get to sleep, wake at the same time each night, or wake feeling unrefreshed. In Chinese medicine these point to different patterns, and each is treated differently.
How I work
Whatever brings you, I’ll ask how you’re eating, how your energy holds up through the day and what is going on in your life. In Chinese medicine mind and body aren’t treated separately, so I plan treatment around the whole picture.
Treatment itself is calm and quiet. You’ll lie comfortably on a treatment couch for much of the session, and many people find they relax more deeply than they expected; some fall asleep.
Questions people often ask
Can I have acupuncture if I’m taking medication for sleep, anxiety or depression?
Yes. Please tell me what you take, and don’t change it without talking to your doctor.
How often will I need to come?
Most people start with weekly sessions. Once we’ve seen how you respond, we’ll decide together how often to continue.
“Her treatments are a perfect blend of relaxing and therapeutic. I am a very happy regular client.”
Acupuncture works alongside medical and psychological care, not instead of it. If you’re struggling with your mental health, please talk to your GP as well.
