Acupuncture for complex and chronic conditions
Some of the patients I see have spent years moving between specialists, collecting diagnoses, or none at all. Their symptoms span several parts of the body, change from week to week, and don’t fit neatly into a ten-minute appointment with their GP.
Many have been told their test results are normal, or have felt that their symptoms weren’t taken seriously. These conditions are still poorly understood, they often overlap, and many people live with more than one.
It is important to me that patients feel comfortable enough to describe all of their symptoms and the impact they have on their life, which is why a first appointment lasts about 75 minutes.
I see many patients living with
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)
Symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, fatigue and brain fog, thought to be caused by the heart rate rising more sharply than it should on standing.
Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS)
Symptoms such as flushing, itching, hives, gut upsets, and reactions to foods, smells or changes in temperature, thought to be caused by mast cells in the immune system releasing histamine and other chemicals too easily.
Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders
Joint instability, widespread pain and fatigue, thought to be caused by differences in collagen, the protein that gives the body’s connective tissue its strength and stretch.
Long COVID
Fatigue, breathlessness, brain fog and other symptoms that continue for months after a COVID infection.
Symptoms without a clear diagnosis
Exhaustion, pain, digestive problems and poor sleep that no single test explains. You don’t need a diagnosis to come and see me.
How I work
I can’t promise to cure any of these conditions, and I’d be wary of anyone who did. What I can offer is time, a careful history, and treatment adapted to you.
People with these conditions are often sensitive: to needles, to touch, or to spending time on their feet. I use very gentle techniques where they suit, which can involve very few needles. Treatment is paced to your energy, and I check how you have responded before deciding what to do next.
I’m happy to work alongside your GP and specialists. If you notice new or worsening symptoms, please always check them with your doctor.
